Since January 2008 Grupo Total and Federal tyres have joined forces in sponsoring the Spanish Guardia Civil Rally Raid team.
“Federal is gaining more and more distribution in Spain and a logical next step for us is to reach the end-consumer”, according to Clark Freed, director general Grupo Total. “This Rally team has a very obvious reference with tyres and will also in 2008 be very active in competition races and in the World Cup. In all these events the name Federal will be widely exposed to the end-consumer. On the other hand we will also have the opportunity to invite our clients, Federal distributors, to the events where we will offer them the opportunity to meet the team and/or to participate in all kinds of activities with the team”.
The drivers of Guardia Civil Rally Raid, José Manuel Salinero Morcuende and Montserrat Ruiz Álvarez are both working in the general management of Guardia Civil in Madrid and are very experienced in racing rally’s. Montserrat Ruiz Álvarez was the first woman who crossed the finish of Paris Dakar in competition. Both drivers and their team were fully prepared to participate for the 9th time in the 2008 issue of Lisboa – Dakar race….. Since 2000 the team has participated also in various other races:
- Baja España Aragón, 7 times (Part of the World Cup circuit)
- Rally de Emiratos Árabes, 1 time
- Rally de Marruecos, 2 times
- Rally Faraones, 3 times
- Campeonato de España de Todo Terreno, 5 times
- Currently the team is classified on the second place in T1 Campeonato de España Rallys Todo Terreno 2007.
